La nouvelle première ministre de l'Alberta, Rachel Notley, entend mener de front avec le Québec la bataille contre les changements climatiques. La chef néo-démocrate, dont l'élection majoritaire a mis fin au règne des progressistes-conservateurs début mai, estime qu'il s'agit d'« une nouvelle époque pour l'amitié entre le Québec et l'Alberta ».
